Welcome to new and returning RFTC Swim Team families!
Joanne O’Hara and Bill Heineke and Ann and Doug Anderson are excited
to co-chair the swim team and look forward to a great season! Clyde Lundgren returns for his 12th season as Head Swimming Coach for RFTC. This should be our best season yet with lots of swimmers making new “best times” and having lots of fun.

June 8-July 18 3:30-6:30pm Mon-Fri
Swim team practice times will remain the same as last year. A copy of the practice schedule is listed on page 6. All age groups with the exception of 6 and Unders will have a one-hour practice. Also, notice the ten-minute overlap for all other age groups. During this time, swimmers will participate in dry land exercises, stretch, and meet with their coaches. It can be very hectic on the deck with all the children moving around. Therefore, as a safety measure, swimmers who are not in the water practicing will not be allowed on deck. The locker rooms will be available for use ten minutes prior to and following each age group’s practice.
Swim Meets
RFTC swim meets are a great opportunity to expose your child to competitive swimming in a very laid-back way and to give your child an opportunity to show off how (s)he’s improved. Meets are also social, fun affairs for your child and, hopefully, you as well. They typically run from 5:30pm (warm-ups begin) until approximately 8:30pm (last relay finishes). We will send you reminders each week during our season, but review the schedule so you are familiar with the dates. The practice Green/White meet scheduled for June 11th is an informal way to introduce new swimmers and reacquaint old swimmers with how the swim meets are run, it should be fun.
PHOTO BY MATTHEW H. KOSTERMANDuring swim team season, sign-up sheets for upcoming meets will be posted on the swim team bulletin board as you enter the pool house. It is each family’s responsibility to sign up swimmers for a meet by the 48 hours (end of day Friday for Monday meets) prior to that meet. A swimmer is only entered in a meet if (s)he is signed up for it. And it is important for your child to participate once committed. Last minute roster changes or cancellations are difficult and time consuming for both teams and delays the start of the meet.
Swim Meet Dates
We have included a one-page calendar of events in this packet that lists all dinners/swim meets/deadlines etc. The schedule is a little different this year. Not all the meets are on Thursdays.

Evaluations and Goals
To help all swimmers improve over the summer, Clyde and his staff are implementing a couple of new tools to help the swimmers. Clyde and the assistant coaches are going to fill out a chart of basic swimming techniques and rate the swimmers towards the beginning and the end of the season. We think this will be a more concrete way in to see how your swimmer(s) progressed during the summer. Additionally, the swimmers are going to set up goal(s) for themselves after practices have begun and they get back into the “swim” of things again.
Volunteers
Simply put, this swim team cannot run without you! We regularly receive positive feedback from other teams regarding RFTC’s efficiency and great hospitality. We all love short swim meets. So, each family must assist in 3 swim team events over the course of the season. There are many ways you can participate including timing, results entry, preparing ribbons, concessions for home swim meets, and much more. This year we have made “grillers” a committee assignment to have people dedicated to the grilling at each home meet. Sign up for your volunteer events at registration on May 17; this is your best chance to sign up for the dates that work best for you. If you are not able to make it to the walk-in registration, please submit your volunteer signup request form as early as possible. Scheduling volunteers for swim team events takes advance time to coordinate, and we want to do our best to accommodate your requests.
Volunteer assignments will be published on the back of the Swim Team Newsletter prior to each meet as well as posted on the swim team bulletin board in the pool house. We also will send reminder e-mails out every week. If you are unable to work one of your volunteer shifts, it is your responsibility to find a substitute. Please do not call the chairpeople as we have many other responsibilities to make the swim meets run flawlessly each week.
